From 5 October 2026, Capital Care Health Centre patients will become part of Wellington Medical Group (WMG) following the closure of Capital Care on 2 October 2026. This change ensures patients continue to receive high-quality primary healthcare from a trusted local provider.
If you are enrolled with Capital Care on 2 October 2026, your enrolment will automatically transfer to WMG. Unless you choose otherwise, your default practice will be Thorndon Medical Centre, based at 100 Molesworth Street, Thorndon. To find out more about Thorndon Medical Centre, please go to our website at www.thorndonmedical.co.nz.
You do not need to do anything if you are happy to receive your care through Thorndon Medical Centre. Your medical records will also transfer securely as part of this process.

Many Capital Care patients live in the Eastern Bays area and Dr Ben Lockwood from Capital Care will be working at Eastern Bays Health Centre (along with Thorndon Medical Centre), so we encourage you to consider Eastern Bays Health Centre if this applies to you.
We are pleased to be welcoming many of the Capital Care team to WMG, helping maintain familiar relationships and supporting a smooth transition for patients. Staff joining WMG will primarily be based at Thorndon Medical Centre, with some team members working across multiple locations.
Dr Ben Lockwood from Capital Care will be working at both Thorndon Medical Centre and Eastern Bays Health Centre.
We also have a number of doctors at Thorndon Medical Centre who are welcoming new patients, and so every Capital Care patient will be registered with a doctor as a result of this change. We encourage you to meet our doctors at your next appointment, so that you can find a GP who you can work with on your healhcare journey.
While Dr Sam Murton will not have registered patients, we expect to see her at Thorndon Medical Centre in a locum capacity going forward, alongside her wider health sector roles.
From 5 October 2026, Capital Care's phone numbers and email addresses will redirect to Thorndon Medical Centre, so you will still be able to reach us using your existing contact details during the transition.

Yes. You may enrol with any WMG practice if another location is more convenient for you. Simply use the enrolment form below to registere with a different practice.
Yes. Your records will transfer securely as part of the integration process, either directly to Thorndon Medical Centre if you remain there or via secure transfer to another WMG practice if you elect to transfer your enrolment.
